Could be a Fisher...

the neighbor's cat was found on its back with a scowl fixed on its face and its belly eviscerated. It wasn't eaten or anything, just torn open like a rag doll.

too lean to be a Fisher . . . it could be a mink, but it has a lighter coat and the black at its tail, so probably Long-Tailed Weasel.

Fishers are nasty...very nocturnal.

I remember going to the zoo when my kids were little, and we wondered why nobody ever say those fuckers.
