Military budge $650B..why can't we cut some of that?

As long as we are having other discussions here...

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milita..._United_States

why isn't Congress even discussing cutting some of that?

A truly great, admirable quote. But I've never had the respect for Ike that others have. It's easy to be brave, bold and just when you're leaving office.

I'm not the biggest Kennedy fan by any stretch, but at least he had balls while he was actually in office. Challenging the CIA and Federal Reserve surely had no ill repercussions.

    completely agree cp.

i'm not one for vast conspiracies/secret societies, but the following speech by jfk should leave all of us very curious, suspicious and a little unnerved.

btw: please excuse the clip's ridiculous background music. i couldn't find a better one.

I'd rep ya if I could. And yeah, the background music sounds like it was done by John Williams' retarded cousin. Did Spielberg direct this??

I'm not a big fan of conspiracy theories either, but after JFK was killed, we ended up with a head spook in the white house in less than two decades. That head spook became President.

"I want to splinter the CIA into a thousand pieces and scatter it to the winds." -JFK

And that was the VERY LAST time a US president criticized the CIA.

That music is from Oliver Stone's: JFK. And the music is about as ridiculous as that fucking movie.

    agreed.

however, i will never understand many kool aid drinking republicans when they happily discuss 'cutting spending' and refuse to include corporate welfare and defense spending.

I'll be willing to discuss defense spending as soon as every social program not outlined in the Constitution is eliminated. How's that? You'll willing to make that agreement?

yeah i blame the republicans, and the democrats.

you only blame 1 while the other does the same, then wonder why nothing changes

those %s are meaningless. you dont cut things based on what % they are. you cut things that are wasteful and not needed.

For the republicans part in running a deficit, I do blame them, 100%. However, I agree with their position on where and how our money should be spent.

And the democrats, since Obama took office, do own ALL the blame. They pass bullshit like Obamacare (more freebies) while we're going broke! And the democrat controlled Senate has not passed a budget going on 5 FUCKING YEARS!!!

They aren't meaningless. First, you cut waste, fraud, and abuse. Then you begin deeper cuts to things that aren't in the Constitution. Things that are the lion share of where the deficit is coming from. THAT'S SOCIAL PROGRAMS.

Sorry man...all those companies that make $ solely from gov contracts are on the govt tit... only difference is its called a job and they make more $.in my eyes its corporate welfare.
Additional welfare is public employee retirements...cops, firefighters all padding their shit before retirement for higher pay? Its welfare because the system does not pay for itself, its unfunded. The private sector are the suckers paying the bills.

The one I loved was Panetta recommending that our solders not get a raise or up to 1% of a raise to cut costs but no a fucking word about cutting the contractors we (The U.S.) hire to fight overseas. We pay those contractors 4-12 times as much as we pay our soldiers for doing the same job.

They gave the active duty military a 1.7% raise this year. Then they instituted a 2% tax increase on federal emplyees, including the military. So all servicemen got a .3% paycut.
