and IQ doesn't measure smarts. it measures an arbitrary quotient derived from standardized testing of every man in the army during WWII, and adjusted over time. it's believed that at best it is a measure of how well you were socialized as a child.

Who cares? IQ doesn't really determine much except you can retain information and spit it back out. I read a journal years ago about IQ and they found the only real 'intelligence' differences between an average mechanic and an average surgeon was their amount of education, salary and vocabulary.

I want to say it was a Psychology/Psychiatry/Educational journal. I was doing research right around the time Howard Gardner's research on multiple intelligences was being taken more seriously.

the best stuff i read on it was back in the 1970s when the radical political movements claimed the tests were racially biased so that urban kids of the inner city (the then euphemism for city blacks) would score lower and not have the choice of the better jobs. i think the new school came out with a black IQ test that included items of black urban culture that favored black kids, with questions like "which of these is a car? a 125, a 007, a 212, or a 225?"
