Had root canal on wednesday, taking advil and codene, pain is horrible any advice?

btw, if the dentist didn't get all of the nerve, i would next suspect a gas buildup under the packing material (gutta percha?). they're supposed to put something in before the packing to kill off any bacteria and remove any lactic acid that might be there from bacteria, but sometimes some is missed. in any case you need to see a real dr. because it should never hurt so much so long after.

I had 3 impacted wisdom teeth removed and they gave me vicodin and i only had to use one...I can't remember ever having vicodin for root canals, or any other dental procedure other than extractions.

there is no way anyone should be in that much pain after a root canal, especially two days after one. I never give narcotics after a root canal because it is not needed.

it is one of three things:

1- your bite is still high, i.e. touching the opposing tooth

2- all the tissue was not removed

3- there is an infection

i also rarely Rx antibiotics after root canals because the procedure is the treatment for infection.

OP, you need to get IN to see your dentist ASAP. this is NOT normal.
