Photography's a joke. Anyone can be a photographer. You do your scary great pictures because you're a professional. I'll take my stupid...automatic camera...take pictures and we'll see if people can tell the difference. - HS, 2-1-02

how is it doing?
i'm getting all new pains now, along the sides of my shins, so it's not shinsplints as I know them. I'm icing it now.
I also checked out that Noakes guy (if you ever saw the movie Sleepers, the name "noakes" is a bad one) can you recommend a good place to start?

Depends on the day -- didn't feel too bad when I did my nine-miler on Sunday, but tears were streaming down my face by the end of my three-miler a couple of days ago.
Gonna try something weird today: run with an ice pack tucked in under my tensor bandage.
Oh, yes indeed!
He wrote what is widely regarded as one of the greatest books ever on the subject of running, The Lore of Running.

Although he's tackled nearly every aspect of sports science, it's his switch to low carb a couple of years ago that's really caught people's attention.
The article in which he first talked about switching to low-carb, "Against the Grain."

A couple of podcasts in which he discusses the effects of a low-carb diet on running (and on a healthier life in general)

We have some seriously nasty weather coming tonight or tomorrow, I hope to get in one more good run before it hits.

Another thing Noakes has become pretty famous for is speaking against the use of energy drinks, and drinking excessive amounts of water during exercise.
Here's a little taste of a (much thinner-looking) Tim Noakes in action:

Knowing how much you love your Powerade Zero, and from what I've heard and read of Noakes on the topic of sports psychology, I pretty sure he'd say the benefit it gives you in terms of reward outweighs its negative aspects. It's sugar-free, after all.
Of course this raises a fundamental question about energy drinks. If an energy drink is sapped of sugars and carbohydrates, what kind of advantage are these drinks supposed to have over water?![]()

Missed this before...I usually try to run only 2 to 3 times a week....I actually get anxious awaiting those days...then yes, I get anxiety right before the run...just like you described...It even carries into my first mile sometimes..."god i suck/I'm never gonna make it/uhhg why am I doing this" lol....best not to think about it...those are my best runs
another weird thing, on days I dont run I sort of avoid this thread...i feel guilty looking in if I didn't run that day...lol
