I'm automatically suspicious of anyone who wants to dress up as an amusement park mascot and especially any man who volunteers to play Santa.

What man in their right mind that YOU know actually VOLUNTEERS to be surrounded by kids and have them sit on his lap, pose for pictures, listen to their bullshit and what have you, for 8 hours a day? Most men can't tolerate their own kids for more than two hours at a shot.

Now from what I've learned from being in the business and knowing people in it, most of the amusement park characters are college students, just doing what they gotta do to get by... and most are female. That's some consolation. But you don't know which are the 20 year-old girls and which are the (albeit few) 40 year-old men. And these Santas? Fucking unsettling.

My daughter has a girlfriend that lives nearby. Sweet kid. 9 years old. She went over and asked her to come play the other day, and the girl said she couldn't because her dad was paying her to rub his feet.

My daughter is NEVER sleeping over at that house. In fact, she's probably never allowed IN that house. Any playing they wanna do they can do here or outside in the neighborhood, with the other kids.

I also plan on asking the neighbor kid more questions... I know she's left home alone a LOT, at 9 years old. I know dad isn't around much and that when he is, he pays her to rub his feet. Just seems odd. I'll find creative ways to ask my questions of course... I don't want to make the kid uncomfortable. And I don't want to judge people. But my instincts are flaring up here. I'm sensing something is fucking off and it makes me feel for this child's well-being.
I don't want to start trouble with neighbors. And for all I know I could be way off so I don't want to assume the worst because that's a TERRIBLE accusation if it's not true. But I figure I'll do a little recon, find out if my suspicions are warranted or not and take it from there.

Yea... I plan on doing what I can to get info. I don't want to be too invasive and I definitely don't want to make the child uncomfortable but if there's ANY chance that a child is being abused or mistreated in any way... that's something that you don't want to brush off for the sake of fear.
The only problem is, it's also the LAST thing you want to accuse someone of if it's not actually the case. It could ruin someone's life.
Either scenario would ruin someone's life. So you gotta be damn sure... or at least sure enough to put it in someone else's hands, someone who's more experienced... like the school or something, and have them deal with it, using their expertise.

I mean, if the kid came to me and said that her dad was violating her in any way... yea, I'd immediately go to the authorities. But I think most kids in this situation are secretive. Or told to be so. Maybe even threatened. Maybe it's only because a teacher or caregiver notices something wrong and reads between the lines that some of these violators ever get found out?

I dunno... tough situation. You can't accuse an innocent person of something so heinous... yet you can't risk something so heinous going on.
