It's hit and miss for me, too. I guess it depends on Artie's mood. There are times when he seems really bitchy. He'll take it out on Mike Bocchetti, Dan and the twins. I like it when other comedians come in and hang out.

Nick was never "brilliant". He was a bitter, formulaic hack who would incessantly crowbar mostly unfunny one-liners...................as well as references to his playing days at Maine ...........into the conversation on an consistent incessant basis.

Also, Nick had this weird jealousy thing going on with Artie which colored the entire show: about Artie's time on the Stern show, about Artie's relative success in movies and tv, about Artie's relationships with people....................about everything, really. And it was so tiring to listen to.
I get it, you don't like Nick. But the man is a much funnier comic then Artie ever was - Artie excels in improvisation. And he was also brilliant on all of the Stern roasts. He is not a hack, he is one of the best ones out there.

You never heard Artie repeat a story?

If Nick was jealous of Artie why did he bring him on board? It was Nick's choice.

Maybe Nick didn't play it right. Maybe Nick didn't want to work with a fat addict who's jeopardizing the show by killing himself with food and drugs. Maybe Artie arranged a coup. Maybe the guys at DirectTV are dicks. But right now Artie is acting like Nick never existed just like Howard is acting like Artie or Bob Levy never existed.

They had a good thing going and now they don't.

    define that, please

someone on the Artie board tried to claim Nick was a top 30 stand-up, and some other poster made him look really stupid by posting a list a comedians funnier than Nick

it was quite a long list

but yes, Nick is a funnier stand-up than Artie, but that's saying next to nothing; Artie's stand-up completely sucks.

but at least now Nicky Best is free to do all the stand-up he can.

which has what to do with what, exactly?

you ever hear Nick tell a story? i'm sure he has, but i'm fucked if i can remember one. playing days at Maine, used to room with Louie CK.......................and that's all I got.

can any story Nick's ever told hold a candle to any story in Artie's top 50?!?

    no

    sure it was.

    Artie was always the draw.

why is this so hard to understand or admit, even with the obvious fact that NICK GOT SHIT-CANNED, NOT ARTIE!!! staring you in the face?

Occam's Razor would tell you that Nick just sucked on the radio.

and he failed from both ends: he couldn't play the corporate game or be funny.

the powers that be went with a morbidly obese junkie over him. you could argue that it says more about DirecTV, but I think it says WAY more about Nick.

they used a Nick sound clip and Artie said "rhymes with Shmapalo" this week

and what are they supposed to do, light a candle in the corner for him each night?

So I give him another listen (after a couple brief listens right after he lost the unfunny dead weight-Nick Dipaolo) now that he's had a couple weeks to get used to being alone and get in a groove presumably and I figure now is a good time....he's made some headlines recently, just got back from the Super Bowl, should have some good stories, it's a Monday, ect., ect.....

So I tried to hang in for the first hour and it's all a bunch of obnoxious yapping back and forth between some "twins" and a bunch of Bubba Love Spong-like douches I've never heard of constantly cackling in the back ground. None of it's funny, there's no context to any of it, it's all inside banter, if you haven't listened to these assholes every second of every day you have no idea whatsoever what they're talking about.

How the fuck do you expect to gain new listeners like that? It's like if someone has never heard the Howard Stern show before (or much of it) and their first introduction is one of those lame hour long Block Party discussions. But it's worse than that fucking hooey.

Artie's show is harrible. It pains me to say that since I wanted him to do well-he was the last shining light on the Stern Show even when he was strung out badly that last year, but he's harrible. He can't carry a show. He needs a sidekick/partner and even that might only bump him up from harrible to bad. He's trying to create a "cast" and they're worse than harrible. I see no future for this trainwreck.

    that's any radio show.

you need to give it two weeks. You can't say shit before then. two straight weeks.

Any show that you listen to for the first time...and understand everything that is being said has zero depth.

Say what you want about Nick, But its he that pulled Artie off the dung heap and got him that shot....And if Artie got him fired, I'm not going to feel the same warm and fuzzies for our boy from Jersey...........Who the is that Bonnie chick?....Smokin'
    So sayeth the Snot!!!! ...........

The Gwar interview has been the only thing I've liked since the "revamp". Oderus and Balsak just need to be in-house entertainment (especially to keep Bocchetti all nervous).
