US government can order the killing of American citizens even within US

What the fuck! This is crazy. Drone wars are about to begin in the US?

    NBC reports:

A confidential Justice Department memo concludes that the U.S. government can order the killing of American citizens if they are believed to be “senior operational leaders” of al-Qaida or “an associated force” -- even if there is no intelligence indicating they are engaged in an active plot to attack the U.S.

The 16-page memo, a copy of which was obtained by NBC News, provides new details about the legal reasoning behind one of the Obama administration’s most secretive and controversial polices: its dramatically increased use of drone strikes against al-Qaida suspects, including those aimed at American citizens, such as the September 2011 strike in Yemen that killed alleged al-Qaida operatives Anwar al-Awlaki and Samir Khan. Both were U.S. citizens who had never been indicted by the U.S. government nor charged with any crimes.

The secrecy surrounding such strikes is fast emerging as a central issue in this week’s hearing of White House counterterrorism adviser John Brennan, a key architect of the drone campaign, to be CIA director. Brennan was the first administration official to publicly acknowledge drone strikes in a speech last year, calling them “consistent with the inherent right of self-defense.” In a separate talk at the Northwestern University Law School in March, Attorney General Eric Holder specifically endorsed the constitutionality of targeted killings of Americans, saying they could be justified if government officials determine the target poses “an imminent threat of violent attack.”

The fact that the liberal media is leaking something potentially impeachable for Obama makes it interesting.

I'm not worried, the NRA says we are safe as long we have our 20 round clips and AR15s we should be able to handle anything the military can dish out.

The scarred bunnies in this country (the overwhelming majority) gladly gave up most/all(?) of your rights and freedoms after 911 in the name of "defending freedom" and prosecuting the "war on terra".

And it will NEVER be undone. Governments never give up newfound powers, especially ones that were given to them on a silver platter by the great unwashed masses of scared pussies.

You fucking pussies asked for it and got it and anyone who tried to say no was branded a "traitor"....a "enemy"....a "commie".....a "lib'rul".....a "anti-american".....a "terrorist sympathizer".....blah-blah-blah, ect., ect., ect.

So suck it! Your guv'mint is doing exactly what you asked it/begged it to do.

    "about to begin"?

This is far from being something new that is about to begin.

You might have to rethink about how you go about with defining "drones" and what exactly a "drone strike" might actually turn out to be.

We're not the ones who need to worry about the military. Historically they are more likely to be pointing their guns at Washington. The 20 rd clips are just insurance.

Due process is officially dead. They can now just declare you to be a terrorist and blow you up with a drone. Make a mistake? Awe sorry, we thought he was a terrorist. The silence from the left is deafening.

""Anticipating domestic boom, colleges rev up drone piloting programs""

    By Isolde Raftery, NBC News
Randal Franzen was 53, unemployed and nearly broke when his brother, a tool designer at Boeing, mentioned that pilots for remotely piloted aircraft – more commonly known as drones – were in high demand.
Franzen, a former professional skier and trucking company owner who had flown planes as a hobby, started calling manufacturers and found three schools that offer bachelor’s degrees for would-be feet-on-the-ground fliers: Kansas State University, the University of North Dakota and the private Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla.
He landed at Kansas State, where he maintained a 4.0 grade point average for four years and accumulated $60,000 in student loan debt before graduating in 2011. It was a gamble, but one that paid off with an offer “well into the six figures” as a flight operator for a military contractor in Afghanistan.

“The condition that an operational leader present an ‘imminent’ threat of violent attack against the United States does not require the United States to have clear evidence that a specific attack on U.S. persons and interests will take place in the immediate future,” ...

.....“informed, high-level” official of the U.S. government may determine that the targeted American has been “recently” involved in “activities” posing a threat of a violent attack and “there is no evidence suggesting that he has renounced or abandoned such activities.” The memo does not define “recently” or “activities.”
So basically not just the president, but any "high level" government official can order the execution of an american on circumstantial dated evidence.

I don't know if you'd consider me "the left," but I find everything associated with and that was born from the (misnamed) "Patriot Act" to be an outrageous, unconstitutional power grab by the executive branch...except it wasn't a grab; the fucking legislature just handed it over; despite having "secret courts" where legal warrants could be obtained, now it's left in the hands of the executive branch with no oversight.

It's a fucking nightmare of our own making.

    thanks Congress!
