A few years ago i would have fucked up dreams a couple times a week. Sometimes i would pull the sheets up over me and my girls head and pin them down, ive whipped my lamp across the room, and she said i started to choke her a few times in my sleep.

I have almost exactly the same problem. I like a good buzz in the evening anyway, but over many years and many prescription meds, I've found that none of them help, and odd as it may be, I'm much more leery of pharmaceuticals than booze or weed. I can go completely straight, and sometimes do, and I don't have any withdrawals or DT or anything. But if I don't anesthetize myself with a little alcohol, and a little herbage, I have really bad nightmares, or night terrors, whatever... Mostly it's reliving very unpleasant events from my past, sometimes mixed up together. At the worst, I'll wake up punching or kicking, but I always wake up feeling like I've relived the stuff even though I know it was just a dream. That feeling sometimes lasts all day. So far, self-medication has seemed to work best and the side effects are much less awful.

Once I fall asleep, it's fucking game on with what kind of fucked up (or awesome) shit my brain will show me.
It really isn't all bad, but when it's bad, it's fuckin BAD.
Too graphic, too violent, too traumatizing. I experience it the same as I would real life.

I'm pretty sure my brain thinks all of this is a dream, including waking life.
