Texas governor and future pres candidate comes out in favor of Boy Scout gay ban

As the Boy Scouts of America reconsiders excluding gays as Scouts or leaders, Gov. Rick Perry said Saturday that most people see no reason to change the policy.

“And neither do I,” he said..........

Responding to a reporter’s question about whether a change in policy could teach children about tolerance and diversity, Perry countered that Scouts already learn that every day.

“Scouting is about teaching a substantial amount of life lessons,” he said. “Sexuality is not one of them, never has been, doesn’t need to be.”

Perry said it would be inappropriate for the organization to conform to popular culture and wrong to make Scouts and leaders accept a behavior that they don’t.

The guy has really done some great things economically for Texas but he's a fucking cave man when it comes to anything else. He will try for the repub presidential nomination next time and apparently has no idea that this kind of stuff will hurt him with all liberals and many, many conservatives.

I'm the first to admit that I'm politically ignorant. Texas has weathered the economic storm pretty well under Perry. It may just be because it's Texas and we already had the infrastructure in place but I reluctantly give him a small amount of credit. But I also voted for Kinky Friedman.

Honestly, I keep myself pretty ignorant these days, because the state and federal governments make me physically ill. My belief is that Texas has for many years been the heart of America's Oil and Defense industries, and there is a SHITLOAD of money, some of it very old money, and that money and those industries wield a megaton of power and influence, nationally and globally. And FWIW, I know it's crazy talk, but I think that was kinda spelled out and emphasized one nice day in November 'bout fiddy years ago...
