3D Printers. Good thing or bad thing?

    :

Is anyone else, besides that nerd Newcastlefan, paying attention to this technology? I've been reading quite a bit on the subject lately, and trying to think of real world applications. At this point, all we are seeing are simple trinkets being made, and some lunatics that are trying, and succeeding, building operational firearms.

I can easily see a day in the short future where companies can provide you the electronic files to repair the appliances in your own home, making that process much easier. But today I read a really interesting article about 2 guys who made a prosthetic hand for a child, that they have made available as open source software.

Interesting shit, it can make your head spin thinking about it. Out of curiosity, I wanted to see how much a 3D printer sells for today. $2,200 bucks for a desktop 3D printer.

The Replicator2 will allow you to make a perfect plastic copy.

    Bioprinters are coming shortly.

On this week's Big Bang Theory, Howard and Raj bought a 3D printer so they could make action figures of themselves.

Hilarity ensued, as you can WELL imagine!
    This is better than rejuvenation.

They do seem to be the next step towards "Star Trek " type replicators.
