Sports are fun. They're a nice distraction from your everyday life and all the crap that goes with it. It gives you something to talk about with your friends.

This is like asking why people like watching movies, or reading books, or going swimming. It's fun! Who cares?

I didn't say that watching the game itself wouldn't be entertaining from an emotional prospective.... The same goes for music & movies/theater.
However, you don't see too many adults wearing Luke Skywalker t-shirts, and arguing with Darth Vader fans about whose "stronger in the force" ....And when you see someone with a massive Depeche Mode sticker in their rear-window, you tend to think that person is a bit of a douchebag...
Of course I do...Just like I have favorite foods I like to eat..... But I don't get a flag with a giant picture of a Pizza on it, saying "My Pizza is better than your Chimichanga" ..... I don't treat the TV shows I enjoy watching, the Foods I enjoy eating, or my favorite pair of shorts as an ideology ...
youth football and baseball means, speech and debate team in h.s.
I'm telling Carl!!
Well, unlike your experience, I didn't go to high school with too many adults (hence, the youth moniker)... I played football in High School, as well (where, interestingly enough, I attended as a youth)....I had no interests in any other extracurricular activities....Although, had they had a Surf-team (as some schools in Orange County did) I, likely would have participated in that instead of lifting weights in the off-season (which is what the football teams did for P.E. class in the off season)
