If she reveals the cause of why she hasn't shown up to work for the past nine months, but is somehow able to attend plays, parties, movies, etc, on the Today Show I think it is a bigger slap in the face of THSS fans (all 3 of them) than wiggy. Wiggy wanted to keep this under wraps.

If she's on the phone to The Today Show, they'll have to discuss why, considering she lives in New York - she's not going to say a "health issue" either, it will be very specific (The Today Show is as close as she's getting to a tell-all interview with Oprah).

If she IS in studio, we're talking Today Show lighting with HD cameras, not Howard TV, perfectly-tuned lighting and standard definition. It should be very revealing.

I acknowledge the right to privacy when it comes to medical issues, but she has built a small fortune on the backs of the fans of HSS. She's not like Artie, where he had a movie and TV career before Howard. She had many side projects come and go, and they all failed. We don't need a discussion every day about what's in her bed pan, we just want to know what's up.

i'm beginning to think this was a stern/fuckwald orchestrated "media event"....people will tune in to see how she looks and finally hear an explanation of where she's been since may.
only problem with that is with the exception of the approx 70,000 HSS fans still remaining, no one cares about her.
the book will tank...people won't part with $20 for a book by a "celeb" pontificating about veganism.

If these appearances actually occur, Robin would either have to go in person or at least allow a video feed. She'd have some explaining to do if she isn't back in studio by that time, as I can't imagine she'd appear in poor health while trying to pitch a book like this.

This book seems destined for horrible sales - Stern has very little audience left, and I imagine not many are interested in vegan cooking. For regular folks who wanted to learn about the topic, there are plenty of books written by knowledgeable people - no need to wait for this bloated phony to publish a book with recipes probably lifted or purchased from Gavan Murphy or some other chef.

The electronic production and delivery system is cheap as hell.

There are certainly enough potential buyers of this book to make it more than profitable...All they need to do is sell in the thousands, not millions.

don't worry about the book being a complete failure....that's a given (unless howard browbeats each of his employees into buying 100 copies.) a bullshit diet book on vegan cooking and eating by a very heavy black woman with thinning hair, who had cancer and now claims her recipes saved her life.

It depends on your definition of "shitload of money." I think you are confusing risk exposure mitigation vs. substantial profitability.

The publisher has likely taken risk mitigation steps:
1.) Little-to-no advance
2.) Assigned the most junior editors, graphics designers, and copywriters (cheap)
3.) By contract, the cost of all promotion is deducted from any potential future payments to Robin
4.) The most important: a very limited first printing. They will tell Robin that strong initial sales will fund a second, larger printer and a second round of promotion.

Electronic editions? I'd guess the vast majority of the e-book crowd are at least minimally internet competent. It only takes a little research on their part to determine what a fucked up person Robin is. Why buy that book?
