Wow! Just crazy. Chris Kyle was a bad mofo. When he got out of the Navy he was back home in TX gassing up his truck. He was approached by two individuals at gun point demanding his keys and wallet. When he reached for his wallet with one hand, he pulled out his 1911 with the other and blasted both of these dudes, killing them. All the shit he's been through, he dies like this. Just crazy.

After WWII guys went home and went back to normal life. They usually didn't run around gloating about their kills. Even those who wrote books about their experience tended to do so with humility and emphasized the human aspects of combat, not brag about it.

A lot of people serving are trying to help their country. But a lot who serve are just sociopaths who find the prospect of legal killing exciting. In past conflicts the odds were roughly even, the enemy gave as good as they got. Now that losses are so asymetrical and the odds are stacked in our favor, I think you get more of the latter signing up.

I was at the range last week firing my LWRC m6A2 5.56mm AR-15 for the first time. Three sketchy looking middle eastern types were taking turns firing an AK-47 in the stall to the left of me. Then a frail, little old lady who had to be in her 80's at least stumbled in with an old wooden handled revolver. Believe me I kept my eye on all of them..
