On one edge of my hometown, there is a highway that has a gigantic chicken processing plant, a sewer treatment plant about a mile farther, and next to the chicken plant there was a meat "rendering plant" up until the mid 70's. It's gotten much more tolerable, but when I was a kid you had to hold your breath well before and after that little stretch, which was pretty much impossible. The smell was indescribable and usually made you dry-heave or throw up, (srs). If you were lucky, you'd be behind one of the rendering plant trucks heading for the dump...there was blood dripping heavily out the back, and pieces of carcass would fall out on the highway. If you've ever seen this kinda shit, you'll know the EPA ain't all bad....
