U.S. Ambassador Francis Ricciardione told reporters that a Turkish citizen was also wounded in the 1:15 p.m. blast in the Turkish capital. There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but both Kurdish rebels and Islamic militants are active in Turkey. The bomb appeared to have exploded inside the security checkpoint at the side entrance to the embassy, but did not damage the inside of the embassy itself.

Turkey is stable thanks to it's military class. Every fifth of a century or so it has to step in and set things right.

But Erdogan, the current PM, has been dismantling the military culture that is loyal to Ataturk's vision for a decade now. Muslim fundamentalists have made great inroads accordingly. The military may not be willing to set things right this time.

Also, somemthing that is very rarely talked about in the west, is that if trends continue, ethnic Kurds will surpass ethnic Turks as the largest group in Turkey. And those Kurds not only want their own autonomous country but they've got centuries of payback waiting to be unleashed against the Turks.

If I lived in Turkey, I would emigrate.
