This sounds suspiciously like the story I heard from several Negroes at 7-11 when I lived in Dallas, except it was coming home for Christmas, or the mom was sick. The first time, the Christmas thing on Christmas Eve, I gave the dude like $10, and he hopped in his car and drove off.....I became very jaded after that....
