Colorado School Recites Pledge in Arabic, Draws Criticism

A Fort Collins, Colorado high school is in the spotlight today after news emerged that its students were reciting the pledge of allegiance in Arabic, reports the state's NBC affiliate.


Rocky Mountain High School Principal Tom Lopez is defending the decision to read the pledge over the intercom in Arabic, the world's sixth most popular language, as part of a recent move to recognize diversity. The pledge has also been recited in Spanish and French, he notes.


"When they pledge allegiance to United States, that's exactly what they're saying - they're just using another language as their vehicle," explained Lopez. "We have a tremendous amount of diversity in our school."


But emails and calls pouring in from parents have alerted Lopez to the fact that some in the community aren't particularly excited by such diversity in action.


Says Lopez: "I'm getting worn down a little bit by how intense their sense of hate has been represented in some of the things they've written and said." Via NBC.

It is a slight dilemma.... We shouldn't really keep children ignorant of other cultures, but this "diversity" thing goes too far sometimes, and is offensive and alarming, at the very least. IMHO.
