Something that bugs me about Fred

It's something he does very subtle, and quiet. But whenever a caller, or someone like Sal argues with Howard and makes a pretty good point. You hear Fred in the background go "huh?" Or "what"? As if he is dumbfounded by the statement and to back up Howard. Listen carefully he does this often.

Fred has to do whatever he can to stAy in wiggys good graces. Even Fred knows he was exposed for his lack of talent when Jackie left. Fred resents Jackie everytime he is on the show because in his warped mind he is afraid Howard might come to his senses and replace him with Jackie.

I love Jackie but I even realize Jackie back on the show wouldn't work anymore.

I've heard it. I'm not sure where to place Fred anymore. Sometimes it feels like he's trying to curry Howard's favor when he chimes in like that. But on the other hand, he's one of the few people who gets angry at Howard, challenging him or prodding him back when he's annoyed. I guess it's "still real to me, damnit," because I believe more often than not that Fred is truly thinking for himself.

Fred has been a shameless apologist for Howard FOREVER. Unless it's Howard attacking Fred directly, he always, always backs Howard in an argument.

I've been mentioning that for a while... he does this random "hmm?" a lot, usually preemptive before someone can finish their thought.

    Examples:
Howard: "I got this article I wanted to (Fred: "hmm?") mention today, but I can't find it in my man purse, Robin."

Howard: "Did you hear what Ronnie (Fred: "hmm?") did yesterday, Robin?"
"Screaming douchebags on my TV, our heroes are dumb and loud"

Yeah, he's been doing that "Huh?" thing in the BG for a long time, it's fairly irksome...he usually does it when a caller says something unintelligible, but you're probably right- I'm sure he does it as an ass-kissing thing whenever people are on the offensive against Pelly.

What pisses me off is that he barely even does ANY sound drops any more. The ones he does are the recent, unfunny ones- but, my God he's addicted to the horrible fart sounds- that one will never go away.

Oh, I notice it. He gets offended and huffy when he should be laughing.

The one that really sticks out is when that hurricane before Sandy threatened the Hamptons area and Howard personally contacted a weather man to get info on the storm. Robin started laughing at the ridiculousness of Howard and Fred was going, "huh, I don't know why she's laughing."

Fred is a defeated old lesbian.

Dude....one of the funniest moments on the show. Someone uploaded this to the binary groups as "Jason's article brings out the daggers" or something like that. Was a time when Jason (or maybe Will) pointed out that Fred constantly mumbles during the show.

Fred mumbles "yes" or "hmmm" constantly during the show. Including during live reads. So Howard is saying "hey everyone...you like saving money on mattresses...then dial 1-800-mattres". And Fred is on mic going "uh huh...uh huh....hmmm" throughout the entire live read. Fred just mumbles nonstop for no reason. He doesn't even realize that he is doing it. When Jason exposed that you could practically hear the glass shattering in Robin's booth when she laughed.

One of the all time classic show moments. The clip is constantly passed around the binary groups. I listened to it last week and it is in a constant rotation on my .mp3 player. It starts out with Jason getting ripped on and then spreads to almost everyone on the show getting in a fight. A fucking free for all. Maybe a top 50 moment of all time on the show. A perfect example of what the Stern Show used to be.

But his mumbling isn't at random spots in the show. It's always after Howard is attacked. You can clearly hear it.

like you said, he acts shocked that anyone would have a bad word to say about the wigged pelican.

i bet he goes off on his wife about how much he hates Howard when he is home, though.

I love the Fred "huh", usually you can see it coming and it's always perfectly timed... what really drives me nuts is when there's an obvious sound clip for him to play, but you can tell he's not paying attention and doesn't play it.

Fred has become Howard's lackey. His job seems to be primarily to chime and laugh whenever one of Howard's jokes falls flat.

The whole O&A joke about Howard with the "Tell 'em Fred!" line has never been more true than it has been the last couple of years.

He always reminds me of Scooby Doo when he does it.

To be fair, Fred would come to life and was funny as hell when it came to goofing on Jackie.

Nowadays, he seems like a second Robin. Instead of "I was just about to say that!" its "Huh?!"
