Wife loves her $299 Kindle HD 8.9". I'm not clear what the Apples do that justify the higher prices.

My daughter has the Kindle HD and loves it. My wife has the iPad mini and loves it. I prefer the mini by a mile. Oh and I have the standard iPad (generation 1) with the least amount of memory (16GB) and that new mini is the perfect size. I try not to handle it as I got it for her but I'm going to wait for the next mini (with retina display) to replace my old and heavy iPad.

Get a Galaxy Tab 2 7" $199.00

It does everything the full size Tab does and you can add a 32gig card and swap it out on the fly. It will play all file formats in any size and you aren't restrained with converting anything to i-Tunes.

I love retina. Would not be without it.
Either wait for the Retina mini or get the big 128gig.

(BTW. The next large iPad revision will be much smaller thanks to new display and process technology. Parts have started to be leaked)

And for all suggesting other tablets then iPad.
They are not integrated. No Airplay. No syncing. People pay for quality and more features. Why settle for crap?

My Nexus 7 is quite integrated. Google music is better than iCloud, gmail, youtube, Chrome bookmarks....all sync.

Nexus 7 has a superior pull down notifications, custom loaders if you want them, widgets.

I agree, if I make a note or an appointment in the calendar in my Galaxy Note phone on the road, I go home and switch on my Tab and the stuff is there!

it is smaller and therefore easier to transport when you commute. also it is cheaper than the full sized ipad. the first generation does not have retina graphics and has the same cpu as the full sized ipad2 so you are buying older tech in a smaller package. better to wait till March for the ipad mini 2

nope; if just for the additional memory storage the ipad is worth it over the kindles (i have both). i'm tired of being limited to the tiny memory available in the kindles. my books are mostly technical books of 40mb or more. i'm constantly having to remove books from my kindle in order to install the ones i need for that day. i never have to do that on my ipad.
