There is nothing to justify crediting a god for the existence of the universe. Some mysteries of the universe may never be solved but this is ignorance, not evidence.

I guess because of the rigidity of his beliefs and his unwillingness to explain them.

I'm asking for your beliefs, and why. We obviously have no absolute proof of anything.

Even humanistic scientists say the universe has a beginning.

    My beliefs in what?

I would have to classify myself as agnostic, presently.

This. I was raised Catholic, graduated from a Catholic school, but I've grown to believe that the existence of any deity is unsubstantiated, unknown and more importantly, unknowable. I consider myself Agnostic now, not to be confused with Atheist.

Believing in a deity/afterlife provides us humans with a semi-tangible moral compass....We all need to feel like there's a reason & purpose for always striving to do the right thing, even when no one would ever know otherwise ... We all need to believe that there is something larger than us that has our back when its necessary.... In the long run, I think believing in a higher power allows us to be able to (mentally) tie up a lot of the loose ends to the unanswerable questions that we all have at some point.... Whats the point of my existence, why did this person live when that person died, will my loved one continue on in a better place once they leave here, Why do some grown men still watch professional wrestling, etc etc ..... Whether you choose to believe in a God or not, the sheer magnitude of the forces required for us to exist as we do today... and, the question of how everything we know & see came into existence .... will always be far, far beyond anything we could ever comprehend or understand ...

This. I personally don't really believe in God, but then again I can't be completely sure.

Like I say, to me it is logical and sensible that God exists. It is illogical and insensible that He doesn't
