Feral cats, or "un-owned" as some are perhaps more accurately calling them, are the MAJOR fuckin' problem.

Yeah, you have the people who say, "ohhh, Fluffy DESERVES to go outside and be 'free.'" I have some stinky hippy types who think that way and get all fucking upset when their cat gets kicked by a wandering Negro or run over by an F-150's tire.

But yeah, the outdoor cats are the problem. Had a male as a kid who loved to hunt and bring the heads of the birds he killed home. Line 'em up. It always pissed my mother off when there were cardinal heads.

Looking back, we should have kept the damn things inside. Had a couple get killed, one by cat leukemia and another by poison, and that hurt like a bitch.

I keep my ONE cat inside. He's happy enough. He has two stories to wander, a nice hallway to run down, shit to jump on, toys, all that. He seems healthy and sane.

Also, as a society, we don't think of free-roaming cats the same way we think of dogs. In Atlanta, the ordinance is against unleashed dogs. Cats are excepted. Part of me says, "ffs, it's a cat. Of course they don't need to be leashed or whatever." The other part that has a garden that fucking cats shit in sez, "lock 'em up!!!"

Ever watch a cat stalking a smaller animal, like a pigeon or a squirrel? They have exactly the same hunting instincts as a lion or tiger. They lie in wait, biding their time for just the right moment and then charge. I once saw a cat stalk a pigeon. That bird didn't have a chance.

My cats are indoor cats. Their job is to keep critters out. Back when I was a kid and my dad was dying of cancer one of our outdoor cat's took down a huge rabbit, brought it in and dropped it on my dad's bed. It was the only time he ever did that and my dad died a short while later. I swear that cat knew and he was trying to bring him a meal.

In Australia, feral cats are destroying the balance of the native animal kingdom, they've been openly hunting them for years. I even saw a documentary once where Aboriginal woman were hunting them because the cats had wiped out all the small game the people once hunted.
