You know those movies that you go back and watch and say "It doesn't hold up"? "Private Parts" didn't hold up at the time. It was stillborn.

It was as unfunny as it was untrue; just like his marriage. How that all played out was so amaaazingly fitting it's not even funny. Like "Private Parts"-not even funny.

I saw "Silver Linings Playbook". It was a decent rom-com with decent performances but it was nothing special at all. And it's nominated in 4 of the "top" 5 Oscar categories!
I have admittedly not yet seen Argo, but I saw The Town and Gone, Baby, Gone (I love Dennis Lehane!) and I thought they were really solid movies. I will disagree with you in that I think he is a good director. Is he great? That remains to be seen. Maybe not yet. However, I have not yet read an article that said that Argo was a great movie. A good movie, yes, a fun ride, etc, but not great. ZDT is supposed to be great, transformational.

And as far as SLP.....Weinstein is a pitbull. Did Shakespeare in Love deserve to win over Saving Private Ryan? Fuck no! And that insufferable cunt Gwyneth Paltrow won Best Actress the same year! Ugh. Harvey Weinstein is a force of nature. If he was not involved, we might not even be talking about SLP. Politics.....

All Zero Dark Thirty needed to do was to make Obama the central hero in at least one scene and lefty Hollywood would have given it every award.

Perhaps, but that is problematic as well because you'd have to address the fact that the Bush/Cheney policies were the primary reason we got OBL.

Oh you're funny. You mean that Bush / Cheney policy of not going into Pakistan without permission was the reason we got BinLaden ?

I got through about a third of it. It basically says Zero Dark Thirty is too controversial/too dark for Academy voters and Argo is more light-hearted and portrays Hollywood in a positive light.

Just watched it. I'm not gonna say much, but overall it was worth the watch. There were a few scenes that made me cringe and I'm not talking about the torture scenes. It was good, but I don't get the hype. "Oscar worthy"? I don't think so personally.

And sorry, but Gandolfini will forever be Tony Soprano. He's an instant distraction in everything else.

Act of Valor.....is that the movie where all the actors were Navy SEALs? If so, it looked like a total piece of shit. This is based upon the trailer, which I saw more than a few times. God Bless Navy SEALs, they killed bin Laden but it doesn't look like they can act their way out of a paper bag. It got 25% on Rotten Tomatoes.....That said, I'll probably watch it.

    this

you can add John Hamm and Claire Danes to that list of "great in that one thing they do/lame in everything else" actors. Danes seems to have some agents/managers whispering sweet nothing-Oscar dreams into her ear, which would be a HUGE mistake.

She's the nutty chick on "Homeland". Leave it at that, honey!

Thousands of women would cut her throat to get even that sliver of the pie.

Why tempt fate? She must have sucked and fucked a hundred cocks to get where she is; why throw it all away for a long-shot chance at getting one rung higher on the ladder?
