I have not seen the show you mentioned, but I have always believed that Carter had the most moral character of any President during my lifetime. And the man was not stupid, despite the caricature of a big-smilin' hayseed. The problem was he was not a well-connected Washington insider, he was naive about just how corrupt and dirty you have to be to get things done in DC, and worst of all, he refused to sacrifice his own ethics for the sake of wielding more power. It was like Mr. Smith Goes To Washington without the warm fuzzies and happy ending...
Carter was the best ex-president we ever had. i think that, prior to Carter, the most ineffectual president was Millard Filmore. Nobody could believe Carter ran a successful company because he never made a decision. Not everyone has what it takes to lead; Carter had everything necessary to not lead.
I think the country's pervasive attitude or personality flows top down from the white house; if so, Carter made the country impotent, castrated. Reagan gave us back our testicles. The reason I think i recognize this is because I felt similarly in NYC when David Dinkins was mayor: the office requires a flamboyant bastard. No nice guy ever succeeds in the office. Dinkins was our Carter.

That's exactly it. He was a Washington outsider and couldn't get anything through Congress; even legislation upon which he won his election. So, the American people elected him, based on his mandate and the changes he wanted to bring to Washington, in light of the Nixon debacle (which Ford inherited and for which the American people still held against Ford & his party) and he was a lame duck President.
Sad. I don't blame him for the Iran-hostage crisis; he at least attempted a rescue, but it failed.
And he's done wonderful things with habitat for humanity. He's a good guy.
that's why i was hoping Rick Perry would be the president; he'd scare the shit out of the iranians
The day you give your heart to Jesus, He will set you free.
i heard the word was that Rick Perry was the Texan who George W. tried to play on TV![]()

The 70's were great everyone had aquariums and above ground pools. I had one of those Mickey Mouse giving the finger to iran license plates on the front of my Gremlin X.
Yup, Carter turned the AC off in the Whitehouse and refused to cooperate with Tip O'niel on the pork spending
Political suicide...In realty he was more conservative than any president since his term....Amazing how they create this myths about each guy...Reagan wasn't conservative at all....He just built deficits...FACT
The world was in the shitter; the economy was flat; small wars were breaking out and Americans were not safe traveling abroad (which depressed the global economy). Reagan would get on TV and tell everyone just how bad things were and that even so we would get through it, and you started to believe things could get better. It was the first time I ever looked forward to watching the state of the union addresses on TV. Reagan gave the country back it's will to succeed by any means necessary (which I believe separates us from the rest of the world).
