When you need glasses to drive, swim, play baseball, soccer, etc., it's fucking annoying.

If you need them to read (close-up), what's the big deal with throwing on a pair of reading glass for those occasions?

Also, when you wear glasses all the time, the oil, dirt and other schmutz collects on your nose and below your eyes. It's fucking gross.

I wore glasses from the time I was 7 and contact lenses from the time i was 15. I had the surgery done when I was about 35. It was time.

    Big. Mistake.

When I was on the table, I kept anticipating the laser/knife thing, since they only give you a local anesthetic (drops in your eyes).

I was so stiff on the table, so worried that if I flinched I would cause my own blindness, I stopped breathing.

So, there I am, on the table with my eye pried open, stiff as a board and the nurse says, "FlaFla, breathe."

so I start panting like a dog, immobile in fear and my eye pried open. I must've looked really attractive.

Took less than a minute or so for each eye.

For the TL;DR: Don't watch the surgery beforehand. It's not a big deal and it looks worse than it actually is. And it didn't hurt one bit.
Yeah I'm ruined for it now. I should have never watched. It was pretty fast, and he said it didn't hurt. But still.. I watched

yea I had it done and that was the worst part is relaxing enough to get those fuckers in.

My eyes are good not, but I have noticed that my near vision is starting to go. Getting old sucks.

The procedure was easy and no pain, my issue was the flap they cut would not stay in place and had to go back under the scope to get it set again 2x. Finally the doc put in permeable contacts so that it would hold. It was touch and go there for a while. When I left the docs office all I could see was the worst fog storm you have ever been in. I sat up all night just slowly blinking my eyes and then i was fine the next day.

If they offer you, for a little extra money, for a "touch-up," should your vision slip, take it.

My vision slipped. I was 20/20 for about three years.

    Now I'm 20/25 - 20/30.
    Excellent tip.

Damn, you're way worse than me. I'm at -3.00 and -2.75 with a big cylinder in both eyes. I can't really do anything without glasses or contacts.

Best decision I ever made. Half hour prior they gave me a valium, procedure felt like it lasted 5-10 minutes, dunno might have been more, that valium got me good, anyway no pain. First few months had to put up with dry-eyes and halos around light sources at night, and after that I was good to go. Did notice some slight degradation of very near eyesight, like if I hold something really close to my eyes it gets blurry sooner than it used to, but instances where I actually need vision that close are very seldom. 20/20 right eye, 20/15 left eye/

The halo or iridescent ring you see around street lights at night is temporary.

when did you have your procedure done? what year?

Oh shit, I forgot to mention that! When I had shitty vision, I had super, up-close vision. I could see the pores in my skin on my shoulder.

After the procedure? It actually hurt to look that close.

solution? By a 3x mirror for your face. You'll be used to it, but it's true, there's a trade-off. You lose some of your up-close vision when you have your myopia corrected.

2004 or 2005 is when I had mine done, tried doing it earlier but was deemed an unfit candidate due to my pupils being too large. Tech caught up like two years later and I jumped at the chance.

First time I realized I had lost my really near sight I was kind of pissed. Stuck in a tight corner of a hot attic at work trying to troubleshoot a rat's nest worth of phone wires with very limited space , and I had trouble seeing what small gauge wires were landed on what small terminals ,because I couldn't pull back far enough to get a decent look. As I said, instances like that have thankfully been rare.
