Great point. The Gracie family was very disciplined both in and out of the ring.

The great thing about the first one is I don't know anybody that would have picked that skinny dude in the gi to win it.

Ouch, I remember that too, and it went on throughout the fight too, and he took it too.

I could buy that. None of it matters anyway cause the best Gracie is Kyra!

Not sure. But the dude jumped on his back and hit the sumo in the head forty times and broke both of his hands. A ninja took his place and won the whole thing? A ninja!!!!! UFC is so lame these days

The only time a ninja won. Let me know when a Shaolin wins.

Rickson was the first option, but Rorion ended up picking Royce because he found out that Rickson was teaching private classes behind his back

Before a ufc event a few years ago me and my friends rented some of the early ufcs from a video store.

We were all "OMG no rules! Oh yeah it was so awesome then!! lulz"

We couldn't make it through them. They were sooooo boring. There was a fight where gracie and shamrock literally were in the missionary position for 30 minutes. You guys need to rewatch them, they don't live up to how you remember them at all.

There was a kung fu guy in the 1st or 2nd one that did pretty good, and beat some bigger opponents. I think he broke his hand and couldn't continue.

It was cool to see guys who were extremely well versed in like one discipline take on the same so you got a chance to see the clash of styles of Wrestler vs Boxer vs Karate vs Jiu Jitsu vs Judo, etc. Nowadays guys are trained in everything so its all a mixed martial art instead of one style versus another which makes for more skilled competitors I guess, but not as much fun as a sumo versus a ninja

I enjoy grappling so it still holds up for me.

Never heard that. Rickson trained Royce for the thing. If they thought Royce wasn't gonna be good enough to win, it absolutely would have been Rickson fighting. I believe they all (including Rorion) still deferred to Helio at that time.

I remember when my local cable company refused to show the Pay Per View UFC, because it was too violent.

    hence the "new rules".
