The best fight ever was when that 5'10 dude took on that 6'2 sumo wrestler and whupped his ass after getting hit thru the door of the ring.

I believe that Royce is a competitor, and that at that time his father was running the Gracie empire, so he called the shots. Royce wanted to fight opponents that would challenge him. Dan Severn and Royce had some good fights, and so did Shamrock (Ken), but I am glad that they ended at Gracie / Shamrock 9 or something as it was getting a bit tired.

I'm not familiar with all the conspiracy theories, but you gotta admit Royce fucked some bastards up back then.

Oh no doubt, and as for the conspiracy I am all for it since without it we would not have the UFC today. I have no idea if what they say is true of not, it makes a little sense, but there is no documented evidence that I know of.

I wouldn't be surprised, anytime money is involved you can't count out some underhanded shit going on.

Not sure what the conspiracies are. Except the fact that I don't think there was any serious Judoka in any of the early tournaments which would have been obviously very familiar with BJJ. Royce was great but it is strange considering he wasn't the top dog of the Gracies. And all these fighters have definitely evolved and added BJJ to their game or they wont have a very long career.

If Kimo didn't have that pony tail for Royce to grab that first time, could have gone differently. Notice he cut that shit off after that.

Was that the dude whose tooth went flying when he was kicked in the face?

Helio the father totally called the shots and they listened. Rickson was supposedly the best in the family by far and was Royce's trainer. Royce was chosen because they thought him to be the most likable and level headed. They were trying to make a good impression with the public and not come off as a bunch of savages.

Don Frye was a nutcase. Love his early fights, though.

I have theorized that since the other brothers were already established and revered in Brazil, that Royce was the obvious answer, he would get exposure if all worked the way they had hoped, and if it blew up in their face it would not have been one of the marquee names in the Gracie family that would have taken the fall.
