A Las Vegas woman is suing Match.com for nearly $10 million, claiming she was "negligently" matched with a man who tried to kill her, according to Courtroom News Service.

Mary Kay Beckman, 49, says in her lawsuit, filed in Clark County, Nev., that Match.com misled her into believing her subscription would result in a "stable and loving relationship with another member" the report says.

The lawsuit claims Match.com failed to warn Beckman that she might meet someone "whose intentions are not to find a mate, but to find victims to kill or rape," the report says.

Beckman signed up for an account in August 2010, according to the report, and was matched with 53-year-old Wade Mitchell Ridley. She met him on Sept. 26, 2010, but decided she didn't want to see him anymore 10 days later, after which Ridley allegedly sent her threatening messages, the report says.

Four months later, Ridley hid in her garage and stabbed her 10 times, the lawsuit says. Beckman required surgery to repair her jaw, preserve her eyesight and replace part of her skull, the suit says.

Ridley later was charged in the case and sentenced to up to 70 years in prison, where he committed suicide, according to CBS Las Vegas.

Beckman is seeking $346,000 in economic damages, $5.4 million in noneconomic damages and $4.1 million in punitive damages.
