Good times. It was worth quite a bit to a kid when they first started recycling it.

Fuck that. I grew up in suburban NY and hustled from the age of 12. Mow lawns, paint barns, pump gas, build rock walls etc etc. That shit doesn't exist anymore really. Made $..bought go carts, dirt bikes...had much fun off of my labor.

I did the lawn mowing for several neighbors, a whopping $5 per yard, and instead of aluminum cans, we'd pick up soda-pop bottles. They were almost all returnable then and I think a dime each, not bad in 60's/70's economy.

I don't let him roam the streets at all hours, like I was permitted to. I only let him stay home alone for short periods of time By the time I was his age, I was alone for hours after school. I don't let him ride his bike or walk the mile to school either. I used to take a city bus to school when I was his age. Everything is so different.

I got a nephew who I tried to instill some entrepreneurial spirit. It was like he was allergic to work. Oh and he gives advice to his baseball coach. Telling him that he might not want to speak down to his buddy so much cause he's been playing ball with him for years and he knows that's not going to work. Imagine that shit. If I talked back to any of my coaches I'd be backhanded and find myself in the bleachers. We give these kids less freedom and more opinions. They grow up believing that their opinion is somehow important and we should all follow it. Fucking social media and 24hr news cycle have ruined this world!!!
