I was listening to some sports annalists discuss this, I'm now leaning in the direction that this was a scam all in an attempt to garner sympathy for a Heismen win. And it sure seems like ND signed off on it based on their very well organized defense of him the minute the story broke. They covered quite a few points in this case and it really either paints this guy as a blathering idiot that could never survive in a top shelf university, or just another arrogant asshole that thought he could score points with a sob story for a trophy win, top draft pick, super contract, and money and bragging rights for the University.
