Women can now serve in combat

Senior defense officials say Pentagon chief Leon Panetta is removing the military's ban on women serving in combat, opening hundreds of thousands of front-line positions and potentially elite commando jobs after more than a decade at war.
The groundbreaking move recommended by the Joint Chiefs of Staff overturns a 1994 rule banning women from being assigned to smaller ground combat units. Panetta's decision gives the military services until January 2016 to seek special exceptions if they believe any positions must remain closed to women.

Elite commandos...I guess Seal selection will now have "time out" cards and the logs they have to carry will be styrofoam.

I keed! I keed! I'm sure there are some butch women who would be great killers. Tracy Millman, for example.

I hope not. My husband is a firefighter, and they have had to change the entrance tests so that women could be hired. So, for example, they used to have to prove they could drag someone out of a fire. They changed that so that women could be hired. What the fuck? Do I really want a fireman that can't drag a 200 pound body out of a building? If you are a woman, great, you can apply but you better be able to drag a fucking body out of a burning building! You know, Chyna would be hired!! Anyway, it's just crazy. I'm a woman, but it really pisses me off.

Bad news. Unlike the comedy movie, GI Jane, a women will never become a Navy SEAL. It is just not physically or mentally possible.

I don't know about the "mentally" part - I've never been in the military so what do I know? - but physically, I agree wholeheartedly. The DOJ will change that, no doubt. They will force the Navy SEALs to hire Private Benjamin.

GI Jane?!!! Why don't they make a more believable movie about a brotha trying to join an all white country club. Call it........................................"GI don't think so."

Good. They want to wear the uniform let them pay the price.

I watched them be allowed to wear lighter packs, drop out of forced marches and formation runs, not be able to do a single pull up, cry and get promoted ahead of the people who would be busted for those very reasons.

Really? That is horseshit. It's not right.

I can't tell you how many times I heard the phrase "respect the rank if not the woman" uttered. I can't even begin to tell you the frustration felt when a unit has an allotment to make of people on hazardous duty or hardship rotations or just a demanding school that still has to be met when the designated woman suddenly finds herself pregnant.

Classic example of why the military has such problems with change. Rather than complying with orders and working to implement those orders, you'll whine, lament and wallow in your bitter anger over the decision.

Those are your orders. Follow them. And when it doesn't work to your expectations, work to make them.

You know, LEAD. You're not part of the solution. You're part of the problem.

I don't even have to ask you how you feel about gays in the military.

And you think that will change one iota? The political wing of the Pentagon will sacrifice soldier safety in the name of political correctness.

Not to defend the Pentagon but all this social engineering is coming straight from the political class. The military as a rule is very reluctant to change.

There was this great show called "Surviving The Cut", it goes behind the scenes at all the elite military training programs. They put the fit young guys through the grinder, and a large amount crack under the physical strain. It would be a real shame if the training is changed to allow a woman to make the cut. No problem, if a woman can do the programs as they stand now, welcome to the team! If not, sorry! Imagine how the thousands of men out there that missed the cut by seconds on the clock, then they hack off minutes so the gals can make the cut.

Back in the 90's when women were first allowed to fly off carriers, the Navy lost planes at a staggering rate compared to normal attrition because they were being forced to get women placed on carriers.
