I hope your new generator doesn't put a 60 cycle flicker in your TV when it's running.

As opposed to the 60hz utility power? What are you tying to say?

Sometimes generators will put a flicker in your tv. I don't really know what causes it but it used to cause us all kinds of problems when I was running service for cable tv. Probably a grounding problem or lack of.

You know, actually I am. I hadn't thought of that. Although my battery backup on my digital TV does the same thing.

Well, put a scope on that inverted output and you'll see it's not a true sine wave. The higher order harmonics needed to make a true sine are difficult to create and expensive. Spinning magnets don't have that problem.

I knew it was something like that. I just got it to keep the voltage from fluctuating and cover any little on/off/on outages we get once in a while.

Actually, I might have that backwards. You need the harmonics to create square waves. I can't remember.

I just know the voltmeters cost lots more.
