Comedy Central Makes Deal with Sirius XM

    NY Times/Bill Carter January 22, 2013

Comedy Central is expanding to radio, having concluded a deal with Sirius XM Radio to create a new channel revolving around stand-up comedy and relying on material produced by the comedy cable network.

In an arrangement announced Tuesday, Comedy Central will start up the channel on Sirius sometime this spring, perhaps as soon as the week that includes April 1—which would have the added value of being April Fool’s Day.

Comedy Central plans to mix new performances from comics with selections from its deep library of performances that have appeared on its television channel — from series like “Premium Blend” and “Comedy Central Presents,” as well as some of its roasts of celebrities.

The channel also plans to visit comedy clubs and initiate programs hosted by comics.

serious question i know this sounds stupid, but in this scenario, who pays who? does sirius pay for the content, or does comedy central pay because now they basically have a 24 hour infomercial to plug their tv shows and pull in commercial revenue?

    great question.

both companies are notoriously cheap. maybe it's a wash...

Wonder if that's part of the reason for the big meeting Howard's having in February. Depending on what programming Comedy Central has in the morning, they could siphon off more of his listeners and they're bound to get a lot of media attention. It's going to make Wiggy even more irrelevant (if that's possible).

could be but with the exception of Jon Stewart's productions and south park, comedy central's comedy offerings always seem to be 3rd rate acts to me. if i had to pay to hear CC's standard comedy offerings i wouldn't bother (old Billy Mays Hayes infomercials are still more entertaining). i suspect it will be more of a refreshing of the Raw Dog talent than a draw against Howard since it's been clear to many (well ok to me) lately that Stern fans are not there for the comedy.

I only give a shit if I can listen to the Daily Show or the Colbert Report. Otherwise, it's just another junk station.

They should replay Stewart & Colbert in the morning against wiggy & watch wiggy go crazy. I think that might improve the show actually. Competition is good!

Stewart wouldn't give them his productions unless they received xtra moneys for it.

Comedy Central Channel 101. Might as well replace one shit channel with another.
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.

Will Howard be receiving his comedy central bonus? I'm sure it's in his contract somewhere.
