Now there are reports of 3D printers being used to create weapons capable of firing over 200 rounds.

i haven't seen any yet, but its just a matter of using the right material in the printer. the polymers currently available are kinda weak but you can use the printed item as a lost wax template to mold bronze into the desired shape. with more powerful lasers or a plasma cutter we could print from powered metals and eliminate the molding.

there are people on etsy now who print small artistic pieces and then infuse brass into the material to make a metal item. we just have to be able to replace brass with steel and the whole industry will explode.

i keep telling people how 3d printing will invalidate these laws but people don't want to hear it.

people will just replicate what they need from 3d cad designs. eventually people who could never get an engineering degree will start engineering advanced weapons because home 3d printing and cad design will enable them. we're less than 10 years away from viable 3d printing with durable materials, so by the time the current rules are ratified they will be impotent.

I've been reading everything I can find about it.

we need to be able to print special kinds of steel (S30V) and aircraft quality titanium to do it, but we don't have the power burners yet so the parts still require CNC and hand grinding to finish them. i collect small EDC tools made of the same materials and currently its only a small group of artisans who can work this stuff but the tools are evolving.

btw, i saw the HP design specs and it can only work with soft polymers.
