He used to check in on me every hour to make sure I was still working. He calked and I was super busy, said I'll call you back and hung up. Ten minutes later I see my two month old dog being thrown at me. Work calked the cops. Parents came and got my dog. And stupid me went to court and defend the guy so he wouldn't get in trouble.

Aren't the courts supposed to adjudicate domestic violence incidents, irrespective of the position of the victim (you)?
