Stern seems to hang with fringe celebrities (Young MC or Richard Simmons or Gilbert) and outcasts (Kinison and Snyder). He never hung with the mainstream Hollywood types. The celebrities he hung with mostly fit his personality at the time of more of an outsider. Also, he rarely talked about what he did outside the studio with celebrities unless it was something fucked up that Kinison or Simmons did.

Since Beth, he is trying to get into the Hollywood elite circles. He wants to hang with the George Clooneys and Jennifer Anistons of the world which is ironic since he called Aniston a self important cunt a few years back. He also feels the need to endlessly name drop to show the world he is in the in crowd.

I think when Howard had celebrity friends during the time he was married to Allison, they were friendships with frequent guests where the friendships were struck up more naturally. Howard seems to avoid events where the A Listers were unless he was doing something for the show. If he did ever hobnob with a celebrity who wasn't connected to the show in some way, we rarely heard about it.

Now Howard is trying to force his way into the celebrity world using Jimmy Kimmel to set up parties to introduce him to celebrities and leveraging celebrities who are fans to worm his way into the A List crowd. He uses his Hampton estate to lure celebrities to hang with him for a weekend. He seems to try to collect as many celebrity friends as possible. Half of the celebrities he hang out with are too big to even do his show.

I see Howard and how he "star fucks" completely different today than as he did in the past. Dee Snyder spoke about it before. He and Howard were just two guys with similar interests and lives who lived close to each other. It was no different than two average guys with similar lives and interests striking a friendship at work. But Snyder is turned off with his star fucking lifestyle now. Could be that he is bitter that Howard has turned his back on him or it could be that Howard has changed.

Big named celebrities in Scientology don't have to give away most of their money to Scientology. They aren't exposed to the realities of Scientology. They are duped into believing Scientology is great and used as marketing tools to legitimize Scientology. Howard wouldn't have to give up a dime as long as they feel him officially being a member would help in their marketing efforts.

I don't see Howard ever becoming a Scientologist. He's a Zionist Jew and also too smart to fall for their bullshit. That said, however, I do think he would get in bed with them and say nice things about them in order to advance his (or Beth's) interests.

The "Church" of Scientology really doesn't need someone as mercurial and controversial as Stern in their fold, but you better believe they'd like to have him in their corner and defending them on the air and in the media.
