I can retire at 52 (8 years) but my deferred compensation account (sort of a 401K) has really taken a shit lately. Depends on my pension and how well my personal account recovers.

We don't make the astronomical amounts that cops do in other areas but it is what it is and is better than many people have. Hopefully between it and my personal account I'll be able to survive with some comfort until I die on the shitter or some other equally embarrassing way.

I'll hopefully have boatloads of money and I'll probably keep working much longer than I need to.

I put away 12% a year and get proifit sharing and she puts away 10% with a 6% match. on our current pace everything will be paid off in two years except our 1st mortgage.

I'll be eligible to go at 51 with health benefits and should have about 900,000 - 1,000,000 with pension and 401k combined. Really shouldn't touch the 401 though till 59 1/2. My plan is to GTFO ASAP and find something else to do and try and pretend I never got any of that money till 62 when SS kicks in. I pray to Baby Jesus every day they make an early out offer. I'd leave tomorrow if they gave me my money which they could since the pension fund has exactly 0.0 to do with operating expenses.

    Read nikka!!!! 51

My pops got out of his job the day he hit 30 years. Grabbed that pension and had another job making even more within a week. That was almost 10 years ago. I'd love to do the same. Even if it's Home Depot twice a week - I don't think I could ever totally stop working. Need to feel productive.

Sometimes I ask people that are retired what their typical day is like and they always say shit like, "well, I go get the paper, and then I go to the diner for breakfast, and then maybe I talk a walk if the weather is nice..." I'm always like, "oh man, that sounds so awesome." but in reality it sounds fucking meaningless and boring if ask me.

Yea but dude of you retired you'd be out on the bike or on a snowboard or in a plane. Not going on fucking walks.
