Security systems are virtually useless (in my area at least) getting cops to you in time. I'm thrilled when it happens but in my 17 years in the field I've handled thousands of alarms and only a handful have resulted in arrests.

In my area I think they deter only amateurs (kids). Someone determined is still gonna get in and do what they gotta do. I've responded to plenty of alarms that still had thefts. Deaths? Several at one incident from a home invasion.....can't think of anymore off the top of my old head.
