Most Overlooked Bands/Albums of the 90's

I just thought I'd post this and see if anyone else was a child of the 90's like myself, and throw out some really great albums that flew under the radar. I'd also be interested to know if there were some great bands I missed out on. Without further ado:

Sunny Day Real Estate - Diary - I don't know why these guys weren't bigger, they broke up for awhile after Dave Grohl raided them for Foo Fighters members.

Blind Melon - Soup - Everyone knows their first album, but this one bombed and I actually liked it better. Their final, post-humous album Nico is also great.

Hum - You'd Prefer An Astronaut - This is the album with "Stars" the song that Howard liked so much. Great band, they were just too nerdy for their own good.

The Meat Puppets - No Joke - Everyone knows the single Backwater, and the stuff that Cobain covered, but this album was really great and got terrible reviews at the time.

Mother Love Bone - Apple - I know a lot of people who are into Pearl Jam remember them, but to me MLB could have been the better band, and I hate that Andy Wood has largely been forgotten. He was such a cool guy...

Anyway, I'd be curious to know what albums people loved in the 90's that went unheralded or have been forgotten. With such shitty music coming out nowadays, it's always good to find old stuff you missed out on.

Refreshments. Fizzy Fuzzy Big & Buzzy. Solid album that I still listen to in it's entirety to this day.

I loved those albums, but those were their only 2, right? I will never understand how they didn't take off but the Gin Blossoms did. America has horrible taste in music...

A couple guys left, a couple guys joined and they changed their name but they're still around only now they're called Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers. They still play all the Refreshments song in their concerts. One of my favorite bands to see.

Their biggest hit Banditos is around the 46 minute mark.

Marcy Playground made a lot of really good music other than Sex and Candy that went unnoticed...their album Shapeshifter is really good, as are all of them.

Those are some damned good recommends, Scott. I forgot all about Marcy Playground, those guys were really great. I wish Lithium would play more than two of their songs over and over, whoever programs that channel is incredibly lazy. Matthew Sweet should have gotten some money from Avril Levigne for stealing his song, also...

Anyway, I just thought I'd mention Pavement as well. Not quite in the league of the 5 bands I mentioned, but I really liked those guys:

I agree. It's like every band they play has one or two songs that they're allowed to play and they never stray from it. Some of those bands had several hits and it was still the album era so most people bought those albums and knew all the songs.

The most overlooked bands will not be mentioned in this thread, by simple virtue of being the most overlooked.

Scott, I completely forgot about Buffalo Tom. Thanks to you man, I just dug that album out and I'm going to give it a listen. Also, I realize the absolute most overlooked bands won't be remembered, maybe a more apt title would be "90's Bands that kind of sort of flew under the radar but did chart or were one hit wonders that have been forgotten by most people, but not by you, you 90's person". Not as catchy, though.

I was a huge shoegazer back in the day.

Slowdive, Curve, and (not shoegazer, however) Suede were not given the proper reception, although bands like Garbage, Evanescence, and others made photocopies of the formula and made a brief name for themselves. Slowdive in particular were geniuses, and in their early 20s when they recorded their albums.

    Sebadoh, for sure
