Do you recommend getting a Radar Detector?

Adam Carolla was discussing this and, as usual, he made great points.

It pays for itself if you can avoid just one ticket. It would be a perfect gift for anyone who drives a lot, especially on the open road, etc.

I remember I once owned one of these in the early 90s and it would go off every two seconds to the point where I didn't even use it any more, too, to, two annoying. Then you hear all this crap about these detectors don't work because the cop use one band and these store bought models use something else, etc.

I'm thinking I should get one for my trips to Vegas, etc.

Yeah I stopped using them in the very late 80s/early 90s because they didn't work well. So embarrassing to get pulled over trying to stash it (otherwise it's sitting on the dash).

PS: if you've come this far, maybe you'll go a bit further.... there is a glass rock under a tree at the end of a long fence in Buxton that has no earthy business being there and that youtube clip is old, his radar detector rant was from a podcast he did the other day.

even if they were legal around here, I wouldn't own one. just use your instincts out on the road..for example, you look ahead and see a car parked on the shoulder. always assume that it could be an officer running radar.

You always hear about how the police are extra harsh, won't give warnings, etc, to anyone they pull over with a radar detector... I wonder if that's true vs. just us faggots repeating it over and over again without actually experiencing it for ourselves.

I guess I'm old and boring now; my first thought was, why not just obey the speed limit? Then again, down here in Texas a lot of highways and almost all the Interstates are 70 or 75 which is plenty for me...
