I'm getting ripped off again

It's nice to just drive in and get it knocked out along with a tire rotation in about 20 minutes. is it really necessary to have a reliable,, competent mechanic to change your oil? I suppose they could fail to screw the drain plug in tightly, but really what else could they fuck up?

I've been going to the same guy for @15 years now. I drop my car off in the morning before work, he changes the oil and inspects it from stem to stern. Sometimes he finds things that need repairs, sometimes not. The extra $10 is peace of mind.

A woman I work with went to Jiffy Lube a couple of years ago. They didn't put the new filter on tight enough, and it fell off a couple of miles down the road. Hilarity ensued.

Too many people I know have had issues......cross threaded filters that blow off, stripped drain plugs from gorilla tightening, upcharging for flushes and other phantom fixes. I'm sure there are some with well trained, conscientious employees that do a fine job but I don't trust taking my car to those places. The risk is the same, IMO, at lots of dealers/shops so just find a place highly recommended and stick with 'em.

I'm an asshole that still does most everything myself because that way I know it's done right.

The only time I ever tried working on my own car I replaced the distributor and then twisted the cap around on accident and fucked my car up. After that debacle I leave it to the pros.

I have also heard horror stories about quick lube places. I pay a little more to go to my local mechanic/gas station. I know the guys there and they have never screwed me over and do a good job. Small businesses depend on repeat customers so they are more likely to try to do everything to make you come back.

My Corvette Owners-manual stated that if Synthetic Oil wasn't used (as they recommended), it could void the warranty
