Timely thwead! I just bought the Generac XP7000 for $800. Sells for $1400 and only had 6 hours on it. Electrician is coming out to put a device on my electric panel that will let me run any circuits. Of course I'll only run a few at a time - and no heavy duty or double poles.

Double poles is fine girl. 7kw will get you 30 amps at 240v. Plenty for a 3 ton AC Unit plus lights and fridge. Maybe no electric wok but hey, can't have it all.

I might be very wrong, but my impression is that simple engines, like a 64 chevy or an old Briggs & Stratton, and presumably the motor on some generators would still be functional, or at least repairable, after EMP pulses. Anything without computer/microchip kinda stuff... (?)

Tesla had some issues, but he was a bad muthafucka. And a haaaaaaaarrible businessman. But I don't think he ever pulled ANY hoaxes, unlike Edison. Tesla wasn't driven by money or fame or ego, he just wanted to make stuff.

Store it in a big plastic box outside bought at Home Depot, drill some holes in the bottom for drainage, and side for ventilation...prop it open with a yard stick and bungy cord in bad weather...
You never have to move it...you can run it in bad weather...
I used to work in a catalog studio and whenever we went on location shoots, if we needed AC we rented Honda generators from production companies. They were always old, beat to Hell, heavily used, and they were always very quiet and worked flawlessly, dependably.

Yeah but you don't want it TOO far away or you'll be lose a lot of efficiency.
