The sad thing is that Howard doesn't believe he's gay. He's convinced himself that Dr. Sarno "cured" him of his homosexual feelings. At some point in his life, Howard realized that he had gay feelings and it upset him greatly. Read his views on homosexuality in "Private Parts" and "Miss America". It obviously was tough to accept so he became very angry. I believe this is where all his anger comes from. Then along comes Sarno and magically Howard is cured. "I'm the straightest man I know!"..."I'm a vagina man!"..."I love sex with women so much I can't hold out!".

He's still trying to convince himself. Even his marriage/arrangement with Beth is just a "Look, I married a model, I have to be straight!." Everyone can see it but Howard, because he refuses to see it, at least publicly. Who knows what goes on behind closed doors.
