The sad thing is that Howard doesn't believe he's gay. He's convinced himself that Dr. Sarno "cured" him of his homosexual feelings. recently it occurred to me that Howard's parents may have figured out he was gay at a young age, hence the playboy subscription at 12 or 13. he talks about how open minded his parents were about gays when he was a kid, but I don't doubt that that's just more revisionist history. if he ever comes out it'll be after they both pass.
