This will be canceled soon. The only two formats that excel in terrestrial talk radio is politics and sports. Why did they turn this show into a variety show with little talk of sports or social commentary?

Didn't like Nick's political talk? Sport stories sometime have to involve social and political commentary because they are a microcosm of life. ESPN understands this and has hit gold entwining the two.
However, Artie didn’t want to talk about anything like that. Shit he didn’t want to talk sports unless it was the Yankees and The Giants. Oh yea and the old stories we’ve heard a million times and “Stern …” this or that.

It’ is funny to see some sycophant fags on here suck Arties ass and call Nick miserable because of his Boston personality or political comedy in which they have no sense of humor. The reality is Nick is a college educated man, who has healthy personal and business relationships outside the show, and is a well respected comic among his peers like Chris Rock, Seinfeld, Louis CK etc. He is not some miserable addicted dirt bag back stabber who burns bridges. Artie is the fake “every man” and fake "fun guy."

Realness? Artie is a mean spirited junkie who cries like a bitch if he’s teased or lashes out and ruins every relationship: business or personal, he’s ever had. He’s irresponsible and doesn’t care who he takes down on his way to the gutter. He's also a hack stand up and barely funny on this show.
Nick is on another level as a stand up, he’s on another level intellectually, and frankly as a person over Artie.

Nick got his cash for the rest of his contract I’m sure. He should be happy to get the money and run without having the embarrassment of this show going down in flames thanks to loser Lange’s drug problems. Artie is a big miserable fuck up with no real friends because he can't keep his shit together…period.

Most severance/termination contracts have a clause that you can't talk about it.
My comments are based on my opinion only.

I guess when Nick made quips in the past about management pesterring him to tone down the political talk he wasn't exaggerating. Honestly I didn't find that Nick was too overly political on the show. Granted I would prefer no political talk on the show but Nick seemed to keep the politics limited to a few off handed quips and some bolierplate one liners now and then. The political discussions were never more than a minute or so at most and they weren't serious nor meant to be. Definately not when compared to Stern who would go off on subjects for extended periods of time. Also because of Artie's and Dan's presense there was a balance and it led to some humorous exchanges.

Seems like Rick finally had enough of mgmt and decided to take a hike (assuming there aren't other reasons for him leaving). On one hand I respect him for stickng to his guns and not bowing down, on the other hand political talk was such a minimal part of the show I wish he just agreed to cool it and stick with the show. We'll see what happens but I think he will be missed.

Also what's going to happen when Artie has to take his inevitable "sick days", or in when for whatever reason he seems to be too out of it to run the show. There won't be another comedian to step up and take over.

    oh well

Did you watch the shows with just Nick there? I wouldn't call that stepping up and taking over. They were unwatchable. I did like them together though. But Nick by himself was not good.

are you saying Isobel is connected to BakerMedia?

I doubt it, Mike's blog/radio broadcast from last week had him taking on a job outside the house (on the EPSN campus I thought).

Both Mike and his wife were very complementary towards Artie (they hanged with him at the XMas party).

Talk about missing the point: the crux of the matter was that Artie was/is the draw, Nick was the straight man (not Falato, clearly), and the show should always have been about busting balls, blue-collar sports talk, and entertainment. The average fan doesn't give a flying fuck about fantasy football or new music, and they resented having to put up with both of these things crowbarred into the show. BOTH of which came as a result of them going to Direct TV, and most people on these boards will tell you that while the show didn't suck outright, they noticed a drop in quality.

Nick's politics didn't ruin the show per se, but at any given moment they did derail some good interviews with people who came in to the show with no political agenda. If it's a political show, then talk politics all day long.

All the other crap about Artie being a drug addict and not college education, bravo--you nailed the proverbial fish in the barrel. But don't presume that you know either of them personally or how well they operate in real life situations. Fact is, if Nick had toed the party line, he'd more than likely still have a job. He fucked himself, and couldn't see the forest for the trees. Neither of them is a particularly social person, and the only thing Artie has going for him is likability and a body of work that indicates he's got a built-in audience. Nick's got a hot wife and a shitty attitude towards everything in life, something that's been well-documented over the years. Someone with a little more common sense would have seen that the show was a no-brainer, and most certainly wasn't a place to turn yourself into a 4th rate Bill O'Reilly.

I second this. If they have an interesting guest, they're tolerable to a point. On their own, they are unlistenable.

Used to like Howard, he's terrible now, tried OandA and it was terrible - bad jokes and awful yukyuk radio voices. So I don't like 1 radio show and no longer like another so I must hate everything on the radio/podcast

    this

a special guest.........................Gary Oldman, for example..................with Norton in the studio: radio gold, and MUCH better than what Howard would have done in that situation (focused on $$$, cock-size, and homosexual tendencies)
    .
and Anthony's sad-Dice had me in tears

but aside from that, they're really, really lame

and I want to like them..................I would love to have another comedy radio show to be a fan of.....................but it's just not happening with them.

they're just not mature and intelligent enough to do good radio.

i have enjoyed some of their Stern raps; you can tell they are, or at least were, fans. it's not just a rabid, blind attack, like the ones Howard used to do against the competition in a new market. they're truly bummed out about what Howard has become. but they're just not funny enough to make it compelling radio.

a pontius 'shop has far more comedic depth to it than anything they've ever said
"I heard you're.............really....................sick" - devoted wife Beth Ostrosky, to her husband, H. Allen Stern

jm norton is the best part of O&A by far. the only time i can handle them is when they have guys like quinn, bobby kelly, or bill burr in to fuck around with norton and be ruthless. O&A just kinda take a backseat and laugh.

Same. Norton is too good for that show now and should've left it a long time ago.
I only download it if I see that there's a good guest on or other decent comedians w/ Norton.

As for Nick, the best thing he could do is to jump on twitter and say Artie's first show was a good one.
Dunno if he's big enough for that though.

Maybe he did tweet that other message earlier and then deleted it?

That's what happened. Other people saw it as well; I follow (ed) Nick on Twitter for that exact purpose, and saw it. Probably Nick's agent/publicist told him to take it down, and then wrote today's tweet for him instead. Believe me, Nick isn't going to miss out on one penny of that money, all of those people still saying he quit are just Artie haters... The evidence is out now, people, he was fired and is being paid to shut up/say favorable things.

This may be the best explanation of what happened I've seen yet. Really, not trying to be a jerk. Very, very well said, and obviously, I agree with every single word. Well done!
