Well, I don't let Gary off the hook that easy. If the Adam Carolla Podcast (which has more listeners than Howard now but that wasn't always the case) can get a guest 5 days a week, Gary could work a rolodex just as well. And as long as I'm shitting on Booey, as long as he knows that what he does on the WUS is fodder for the HSS why doesn't he produce something good besides some fake forced staff fight. I know Howard ties his hands a lot but Gary just plain sucks.

Anyway, I've said it before, but the man who could make Elephant Boy interesting never needed an A-Lister guest to create good radio.

That man does not exist anymore. Just like the man with the "insane" work ethic doesn't exist anymore.

This a recent exact plugggy quote,"guests have to offer themselves to us."
"I pull out. I never use condoms, I'm a married man." Howard Stern 1996

    1) Howard no longer has any listeners/ratings like he did on terrestrial=fewer celebrities want/need to come on to promote
1.a) Why would a big celebrity want to come in to promote and subject themselves to his "cock" and "money" questions especially if he has no listeners?
1.b.) The E! Show gave celebs a double "bang for their buck" because they were able to promote to his huge radio audience, and then get extra publicity on TV.

    2) Howard only works 2 or 3 days a week; when celebrities are doing a junket, they are available for a limited amount of time. His schedule effectively precludes any guests who would have been available on days when he's not broadcasting

    3) There is a difference between celebrity guests and good guests
3.a) Howard has the option of booking interesting guests who are more available and potentially much more interesting than celebrities; these could be comedians, musicians, or just interesting people
3.b) Both O&A and Jay Thomas are strong in this area. O&A bring on lots of funny comedians; JT interviews some very weird/fascinating "civilians." Howard is usually months behind when he does this--e.g. him booking "Tan Mom" literally MONTHS after she was relevant.

    4) Gary is really not booking many people at all. Celebs come in to the Sirius studios for a press junket and do a number of shows the same day; that's why you'll often see the same folks on both O&A and Stern the same day. It has NOTHING to do with Gary--THSS has just outsourced the majority of the booking to Sirius.
We all know Howard is mailing it in and even with a 40% lighter workload, his shows leave a lot to be desired. I recall that when Johny Carson was winding down his last 2-3 years and was only doing 110 shows a year, he too would have his regular, aging, irrelevant guests like Bob Hope and Charles Nelson Reilly on all the time. The average age of his guests was >65. I preferred to watch Arsenio Hall's show.

Also, Carson moved out of New York for L.A. in 1972 stating:

"Just about everyone but me has moved west from New York. That's because the talent has gravitated to Hollywood. I love New York. I find it exciting and stimulating. But it's difficult for us to find people we want on the show back there."

Gary cannot book guests because the numbet of listeners are so low. At Krock he had close to 20 million listeners. They were willing to hear Howard ask stuff like "How much money do you have? Is he black? etc etc"

Now the number is probably under 1 million so stars avoid the show. Plugging their products on Stern does not have a huge impact.

Plus add the fact that Gary is too busy playing solitaire to work.

I think a lot of the celebrity type guests he gets these days are doing the show more so they can say "I did the Howard stern show". No one really needs or has a burning desire to do the show with the exception of arquette and those Jonah hill clowns.

On the late night shows the producers burn up the phone lines competing with each other to book guests. Who the fuck is Gary that he can't call agents and publicists.

He's not really on TV. Howard's being a jerk and just wants a nice little private concert. Plus it's fucking early.

Now that he is on the B+ list don't ever expect to see Bradley Cooper in studio again. That said it it's probably time for Adam Levine to be popping his fag ass into the studio

I don't know who used to post it but that list of people Gary didn't book proved he wasn't trying. That city has interesting people, celebs or all kinds of wackos to get in there. Hell, Scarlett Johansson is on Broadway right now, did he ask her. Might not be a great guest but somebody than the lamo shit thats been coming in lately.

I think you guys are looking at this from the perspective of "free" advertising for these Celebrities...

Nothing! Nothing is free in this Sterniverse, if you want Howard's (so called) legion of fans to buy your product or watch your crappy movie/TV program your'e going to pay to advertise on the Show or do a big favor for Don Wiggy.

Cut the Monkey some slack, he's not just a Producer, but also a Salesman.

Howard personally gets 60% of the advertising dollars according to his last contract, probably more at this point.

While Carson was semi-retired the last few years of his show and his guest rotation slowed down, he still put on a terrific (for the time) monologue every show, rehearsed and participated in bits and still managed the guest panel well. Like the aged Mickey Mantle, he may not have been delivering his A-game but it wasn't from a lack of effort with a proud middle finger aimed at his audience.

What Carson said about the location of talent may have been true but the situation has changed in the last 40 years. For one thing, most full budgeted Hollywood movies are now cast out of New York. But for those of you who don't live in New York you can't imagine the transformation of the city from Carson's final days to now thanks to Mayorship of the Sainted Rudy Giuliani. Anyway, all that is moot because when Howard had fans he had no problems getting guests - he could have done the show out of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
