they were forced to return guns to legal owners after lawsuits were filed. who issued the order for the confiscation, evidence points to local law enforcement officials. you are comparing apples to oranges.

U.S. military assisted in carrying out the order, which begs the question, can local law enforcement dictate an order like that to U.S. military? I'm not saying bush gave the order because I don't believe that, but I wouldn't be surprised if FEMA or the BATF had some role in it. I know they got their guns back, but taking all firearms from citizens trying to protect themselves in the ultimate crisis situation is fucked up--way more so than asking for a congressional vote on banning future sale of certain weapons(not that I agree with a ban)

Obviously it is speculation, but even if it was only law enforcement dictating such an order to u.s military, doesn't it scare you that military so quickly acted to disarm fellow citizens of a country they are sworn to protect?

you raise a very good question, who actually ordered the confiscation. as usual no one is talking. from what i have read it was a local decision.

You are correct, supposedly the superintendent of the N.O. PD said there can't be any guns, but we will probably never know. What I did realize at that moment was that the idea of freedom and liberty is very superficial, if military will disarm US citizens that haven't fired a shot or even threatened someone, tyranny isn't "one step away", it is here but hidden. You only see it when govt feels threatened.

yes. limited infringement for a few is not worse than widespread infringement upon all. not even close.

I think ONE national guard unit refused to confiscate in new Orleans, wouldn't count on it.

it's a momentum thing; if one defects early, and publically, it can start a tidal wave

by the way, is anybody advocating disarming only the democrats? it's such an odd idea, to have rights in this country, but only for people who believe what we believe

what ever happened to those mythical liberals who would "fight to the death" to support our rights?

I think they are identifying the troops that might not, and are planning to deploy them elsewhere if and when it happens.
