Kimmel said before the launch that he expected to be behind Leno and Letterman.

The whole point was to establish a beach head at 11:30 to prepare for when these guys retire.

Goo for him. I don't hate Kimmel but anyone on team Howard can fuck off. I'm on team Leno because of Howard but I don't watch those stupid late night shows. Can't imagine who does.

Can this be true? Howard have 13 million subscribers that listen exclusive to him. At least 3 persons per radio = 40 million listeners.

Leno, Kimmel and Letterman have combined only 10 million. Kimmel should have beaten them with 37 million viewers!

Sounds like a plan but it also sounds like a John Hein excuse for a slow build.

But if you count the 6 people round each television, the jimmy won by miles, you have to learn to use howard maths, then you win everytime!

All 3 shows are practically tied. I don't see how it's a bust.

while "Tonight" grew by 21% in metered-market households in Nielsen's 56 metered markets.

    * Versus Tuesday night, Wednesday's "Tonight" was up 21% (2.9/8 vs. 2.4/6),
"Late Show" was down 11% (2.4/6 vs. 2.7/7)
and "Kimmel" was down 14% (2.4/6 vs. 2.8/8).

And note that when nationals came in on Tuesday, "Tonight" improved its position significantly versus both Kimmel and "Late Show" in total viewers, out-delivering them Tuesday night with 3.3 million persons versus 3.1 million for Kimmel and 2.9 million for "Late Show."
You are aware that late night ratings flucuate a ton each night based on the guests for each show, etc. right?

Oh forget it...Dropping from night one to night two is a huge failure, yeah...

I have a hard time believing anyone at the network expected Kimmel to just immediately lead the pack...The fact that he's beating / tying Letterman says alot more about Dave than Kimmel.

Also, if Jimmy can even simply keep these numbers steady, the network is making some big bucks!

Still way too early to say the race is over. Leno and Letterman are mainstays at those times. Time will tell if Jimmy can build a stronger following. BTW, 3 late night shows sounds like a bit too much.

Actually I'd say the biggest loser is Conan. He's had a really tough time gaining traction since he started on TBS and now with Kimmel moving his show up and getting some pub, O'Brien's even more insignificant.

Well, especially since all the shows only run for 6 episodes......

    It's actually "retraction" not "traction".
