I learn someone has served in the military and I think, "Gee, they did something really good for their country," but then they act like a big dick constantly...Do we have to be nice to them? Maybe they saw some sort of action and they are all screwed up inside now and can't help but be a jerk.

I have friends who were in the military that were really nice and I know a few that were assholes. Pretty much I htink it's the same as the general population and people suck.

This. The problem is, you tend to remember the assholes even though they're the minority.

Well, you should. People who have chosen not to join the armed services should support the people who have chosen to forgo x amount of years of their lives to allow us to live ours. I respect that, and appreciate the people who have done that. Being said, the military is full of assholes. So is Wal-Mart and the DMV. If I worked in a service industry where the management chose to give a standard discount to service personnel ( like lowes ) and they requested it, of course honor it. If some asshole cuts me off in traffic with his eagle globe and anchor sticker on his 4x4, he can go fuck off. Being in the service doesn't give you extra rights as a citizen to be a douche.

They don't forgo any parts of their lives. They get educations and job skills.
