Well of course you can you ninny, there's all kinds of power settings. But as JP already said, all it does is turn the microwave off intermittently. The turntable still turns and fan runs etc., but the microwave itself is off. So at 50% power the microwave is powered for 30 seconds of every minute of cook time.
